BIO

Tennessee based indie-rock outfit Aquariums draws influences from all over. Led by bearded and bespectacled Texas native Martin Schneider, Aquariums plays a brand of indie music characterized by large dynamic builds in stark contrast to desperately quite passages. With one album already under their belt and an ambitious sophomore release in the works, Aquariums will be a group to keep a close eye on.

Rewind a few years and there will be a short-haired small-bearded Schneider sitting alone in front of a computer in his apartment with a guitar and a synthesizer. This was the birth of Aquariums. “It was never intended to be anything. It was just to satisfy my need to create/record music to maintain my sanity and contentment. But as things grow beyond your control there is less and less power you have in shaping them, and if you let them take their own course the end product will have changed into something you could never have imagined, hopefully for the better.”

‘Conceptual Realizations’ is predominately a solo record. It was recorded alone, it was performed alone, and it was mixed alone. The album was recorded in this fashion partly because Schneider wanted to know what his personal musical limitations were and partly because at the time there was no one else. “I wanted to push myself in directions I may have not been before, but mostly I needed an outlet for emotion.”

‘…In Love and Death’ the tentative title for Aquariums’ second album is at its core the antithesis of ‘Conceptual Realizations.’ As a group effort rather than a solo endeavor, ‘…In Love and Death’ includes the talents of many different musicians. The current four-piece: drums, bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and vocals provide a basis for the structure adorned with the talents of friends.

Aquariums, performing as often as their schedules will allow, can be seen in and around Nashville as a full band, and occasionally as a solo act on the road.
